The straws worked just fine. So, I guess there is something to be said for keeping it simple :)
“I have a passion for teaching kids to become readers, to become comfortable with a book, not daunted. Books shouldn't be daunting, they should be funny, exciting and wonderful; and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage.” ― Roald Dahl

Simplicity
Any of you other homeschoolers feel the need to have more teaching supplies then you really need? I do continuously. I have 2 complete sets of math manipulatives that could be appropriate for the level math we are doing, but instead of bringing them out and making use of them, I found myself bunching straws together with rubber bands one day last week.
The straws worked just fine. So, I guess there is something to be said for keeping it simple :)
